The condenser fan motor is located on the top of the refrigerator, when the condenser fan motor fails the center mullion of the refrigerator will become warm and the temperature will raise in both the freezer and fresh food section of the refrigerator.
How to test the condenser fan motor on a built in Sub Zero Refrigerator. Start by removing the grill, this will either be located on the top or bottom, either way the grill will come off after removal of several screws and the springs. Now that the grill is off the refrigerator the condenser fan motor is visible , this motor has an affixed metal blade that pushes or pulls air across the compressor and coils to cool them off.
With a volt meter, test the two wires that plug into the fan motor, 110v is required to start and run this fan. If 110v is present proceed to order the motor from Sub Zeros parts house and replace it yourself, Factory Sub Zero company will charge in the hundreds for this 15 min job, you can do it yourself for around $50.
When the new motor arrives take the grill back off and proceed to the fan motor, the three 1/4 inch screws that hold the motor to the bracket will need to be removed, loosen them up and pull the condenser fan motor forward and out of the refrigerator.
Now the blade that is attached to the front of the motor will need to come off, using a pair of needle nose pliers twist the locking tab off and swapping over the blade to the new motor.
Reassembly the refrigerator and make your final test, this would include monitoring the compressor and center mullion strip, Also by keeping a thermometer inside the refrigerator will aid you in you appliance repair.
